Marta Kubišová: New vinyl compilation released by Supraphon

Supraphon is releasing a new double vinyl compilation titled ‘To nejlepší z nejlepšího 1965–2014’, featuring 25 tracks from the career of legendary singer Marta Kubišová. The collection spans nearly five decades of her work, including her iconic 1960s hits and songs from her post-1989 return to the stage.

Kubišová, a symbol of resistance against the Soviet occupation and the Velvet Revolution, faced significant professional hardship during the era of normalization, which saw her career interrupted for approximately twenty years. The compilation, curated by music publicist Miloš Skalka, includes works by notable composers such as Karel Svoboda and Bohuslav Ondráček.

Reflecting on her life, Kubišová has previously noted the financial difficulties caused by the political ban on her artistic activities. In 2003, after 37 years of work, she reported receiving a pension of only 8,140 koruna (approximately 334 euros), a figure she described as shocking at the time.
