Marta River Mouth Meets Water Quality Standards After 15 Years, Says Deputy Rotelli

Data released by environmental NGO Legambiente show that, after fifteen years, the mouth of the Marta River at the Lido di Tarquinia now complies with legal water‑quality limits. Deputy Mauro Rotelli, president of the Chamber’s Commission for Environment, Territory and Public Works, welcomed the result, calling it evidence that “when institutions work together with clear objectives and adequate tools, concrete results for the territory and communities are possible.”

The improvement is attributed to a task force created in early 2023 under the technical coordination of the Central Apennine Basin Authority. The task force included the Viterbo Prefecture, the Carabinieri, Lazio Region, ARPA Lazio, the municipality of Tarquinia, the province, the water‑services firm Egato and the engineering company Talete. Their joint monitoring, tighter controls on authorized discharges and upgrades to wastewater‑treatment plants led to the restored balneability of the river mouth. Local groups, such as the Fratelli d’Italia club in Tarquinia, thanked Rotelli for the outcome.
