Marta Rovira reacts to amnesty in Catalan disobedience case

Marta Rovira, the former secretary general of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC), has expressed satisfaction following the application of the Amnesty Law to her legal case. The Barcelona Provincial Court applied the law regarding charges of disobedience linked to the organization of the October 1 referendum.

Rovira noted that after more than eight and a half years, she had already disconnected from the legal proceedings, stating, “I no longer expected it.” She highlighted that she has never been convicted and reviewed the evolution of her case, which shifted from allegations of rebellion and sedition to disobedience and terrorism related to the Tsunami Democràtic movement.

Having moved to Switzerland in March 2018 due to Supreme Court proceedings, Rovira confirmed that she and her family have decided to continue living there. She also mentioned her departure from active politics following the May 2024 Catalan elections and the poor results achieved by ERC.
