Martha Patricia Patiño resigns as Rector of Universidad Estatal de Sonora

Martha Patricia Patiño Fierro has submitted her irrevocable resignation as Rector of the Universidad Estatal de Sonora (UES). Her departure marks the end of a tenure that began in July 2024, during which she made history as the first woman to hold the institution's highest executive position.

In her farewell message, Patiño Fierro expressed gratitude to the academic, administrative, and service staff across the university's five campuses: Hermosillo, San Luis Río Colorado, Navojoa, Magdalena, and Benito Juárez. She specifically thanked the students for reminding the leadership of the responsibility involved in their professional training.

Patiño Fierro also acknowledged the support of the State Government and Governor Alfonso Durazo, stating that her time at the university allowed her to work with the conviction that education is a fundamental pillar for the well-being of Sonora. She indicated that her professional career will continue in a new role dedicated to the development of the region.
