Martha Reeves releases new album following National Anthem controversy
Motown legend Martha Reeves is releasing her first new album in twenty-two years, titled ‘Searching’. The project, a blend of jazz, gospel, blues, and R&B, was recorded in New Orleans with trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis and co-producer Chris Roe.
Reeves has also been in the spotlight following a controversial performance of the National Anthem at the inaugural Women’s Pro Baseball League game in Springfield, Illinois. After facing criticism for her rendition, Reeves attributed the performance issues to windy conditions, wet field conditions, and a lack of stage monitors. She also suggested that her background singers contributed to the difficulty, noting in a rehearsal video that she had stopped a singer for being out of tune. To demonstrate her point, Reeves performed the anthem again for Fox 2 News in Detroit without background accompaniment.
