Martha Stewart apologizes for controversial Halloween costume

Lifestyle mogul Martha Stewart has issued apologies following backlash over a Halloween costume in which she dressed as a homeless person. The ensemble, which included ripped clothing, a tattered sweater, and a sign reading “I AM HUNGRY HELP ME!!”, was shared on social media and drew widespread criticism for being insensitive and tone-deaf.

During a recent appearance at a corporate rally in Orlando, Florida, Stewart offered a new explanation for the outfit, alleging that “Today” show co-host Craig Melvin accidentally spilled chocolate on the sweater she had originally intended to wear. She claimed that with only ten minutes to prepare for a subsequent party, she settled on what she described as the “easiest costume” option.

Stewart previously stated that her intention was to raise awareness for the homelessness crisis, but she later admitted that her initial explanation was insufficient. In a follow-up statement on Instagram, she acknowledged her mistake, stating, “It’s hard to admit when you’ve really screwed up. I know many people are suffering economically. Wearing a costume like I did was insensitive and not funny. I am very sorry.”
