Martha's Vineyard to host alumni anniversary and civil rights discussions
Martha’s Vineyard will host several community and intellectual gatherings in August, including the 20th anniversary of Bison on the Vineyard (BOV). The BOV group, composed of Howard University alumni and friends, will hold a series of events from August 16 through 23. The schedule includes seminars on voting rights, redistricting, wealth health, and legal rights regarding ICE.
Additionally, legal scholars Michele Goodwin and Dorothy Roberts are scheduled to participate in a discussion titled “America at 250: The Right to Love & Family” on August 19. The conversation, moderated by Nourbese Flint and Mia Herndon, will explore themes of citizenship, belonging, and civil liberties against the backdrop of the United States approaching its 250th anniversary. The event will also touch upon Roberts’ memoir, “The Mixed Marriage Project,” which examines interracial marriage and family history.
