Martial arts star Chen Kuan-tai honored with sea burial
Footage has been released showing the sea burial of Chen Kuan-tai, a prominent martial arts film star from the 1970s. Chen passed away in Zhongshan on September 2 due to a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 82.
Following his final wishes, his widow, Tang Liping, who is 30 years his junior, personally scattered his ashes into the sea during a ceremony attended by family and friends. The couple had been married since 2017 and lived in Zhongshan.
Chen rose to fame under director Chang Cheh at Shaw Brothers, starring in classic films such as ‘Ma Yongzhen’, ‘The Spooky Bunch’, and ‘The Shaolin Avengers’. Known for his authentic kung fu skills as a third-generation practitioner of the Da Sheng Pi Gua môn, he was a significant figure in the golden era of Hong Kong martial arts cinema.
