Martigny-Combe municipality hit by email cyberattack
The municipality of Martigny-Combe has detected an unauthorized access to its communal secretariat's professional email system. The breach, discovered on August 18, 2026, resulted in fraudulent messages being sent to several municipal contacts.
The commune stated that the unauthorized access may have led to the disclosure of personal data contained within the email account to a third party. Recipients of the fraudulent messages may be at risk of phishing attempts or identity theft.
In response, the municipality has blocked access to the email system and implemented technical security measures. External specialists are assisting in an analysis to determine the full extent of the violation. The incident has been reported to the Federal Office for Cybersecurity and the Cantonal Data Protection and Transparency Commissioner. A criminal complaint is being filed with the Valais Cantonal Police.
