Martin Fayulu's convoy attacked in Kinshasa, ECiDé claims
The Engagement for Citizenship and Development (ECiDé) party has denounced an attack on the convoy of its president, Martin Fayulu, upon his return to Kinshasa on Monday, August 24. The incident occurred in the Tshangu district as Fayulu returned from diplomatic engagements in Europe regarding national dialogue, constitutional order, and security issues in eastern DRC.
ECiDé accused the ‘Force du progrès’—a movement described as being affiliated with the presidential party, UDPS—of orchestrating the aggression. The party stated that its militants had to mobilize to repel the attackers and ensure Fayulu’s safety. ECiDé characterized the incident as ‘ignoble and irresponsible acts’ that represent a serious threat to political freedom and security.
While social media reports indicated skirmishes between supporters and hostile groups, no official casualty count or report of material damage has been released. The event takes place amid heightened political tensions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo concerning constitutional reforms and recent demonstrations.
