Martin Freeman to star in BBC Christmas horror special

Martin Freeman and Jim Broadbent will star in ‘The Bride’s Chamber’, a new BBC Christmas ghost-story special created by Mark Gatiss. The project is an adaptation of a rare 1858 story by Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins.

Set in a historical period, the special follows a rejected suitor who marries a woman to seize her fortune, only to face supernatural consequences for his murderous intentions. Gatiss described the tale as a ‘weird and nasty little treasure’ involving an incognito traveller and a lonely inn.

Filming took place at Ingatestone Hall in Essex. The cast also includes Adrian Scarborough, Joe Armstrong, India Fowler, and Lewis Shepherd. The special is scheduled to air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer during the Christmas season, with global distribution handled by BBC Studios.
