Martin-Kalnô landfill expansion project withdrawn

The operator of the Martin-Kalnô landfill, Brantner Fatra, has withdrawn its project to construct a third waste cell. The expansion was intended to add approximately 496,500 cubic meters of capacity, which would have brought the total landfill volume to roughly 1.286 million cubic meters.

The project was part of a larger expansion plan approved 16 years ago, intended to stay within the original permitted limits. However, during the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process in 2026, the Ministry of Environment expressed disagreement with proposed changes regarding equipment placement and water management. Following the Ministry's request for additional documentation, the investor requested to halt the proceedings, a request which the Ministry granted.
