Martin Legner appointed head of Czech Fire Rescue Service

Colonel Martin Legner has been selected as the new Director General of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic. Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar announced the appointment following a selection process involving three candidates. Legner is scheduled to officially assume the role on October 1.

Legner has a long history within the Ministry of the Interior, having started as a police officer in 2003. He joined the Fire Rescue Service in 2012 and has served as the director of the Integrated Rescue System and Fire Protection Units department since 2022.

The appointment fills the vacancy left by Vladimír Vlček, whose mandate ended in mid-July. Since then, Deputy Petr Ošlejšek has been acting in the role to ensure continuity. The term for the Director General is five years.
