Martin O’Neill considers Celtic future after string of defeats
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has indicated he will use the upcoming international break to reflect on his future with the club following a period of poor results. The 74-year-old coach faces intense scrutiny after a string of three consecutive defeats, including a 3-0 loss to Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup and a 1-0 defeat in the William Hill Premiership. Additionally, the team suffered a 3-1 loss to Ferencvaros in European competition.
O’Neill stated that he intends to speak with the club board and take time away to evaluate whether he can still effectively lead the team. He acknowledged the validity of fan criticism, noting, “I’m not immune from criticism. Far from it. Absolutely and utterly far from it.”
Despite the recent slump, Celtic remains two points clear at the top of the Premiership table. Former Celtic captain Tom Boyd expressed support for the manager, suggesting there is no immediate reason for a change given the team's previous success. Analysts have pointed to tactical and physical vulnerabilities in the midfield as contributing factors to the recent decline.
