Martin Rütter warns against allergy-friendly dog marketing
Dog expert Martin Rütter has criticized the marketing of certain dog breeds, such as Labradoodles, as being allergy-friendly. He described the claim as the ‘biggest marketing gag in the world’ and stated that it is factually incorrect.
Rütter noted that while some individuals may not react to specific dogs, there are no serious scientific studies proving that curly-haired breeds do not trigger allergies. He expressed concern that this marketing leads to families, including those with allergic children, bringing dogs into their homes only to have to rehome them months later.
The discussion arose during the program ‘Der Hundeprofi - Rütters Team’ involving Katja Dumpe, whose family purchased a Labradoodle to accommodate a dog hair allergy. The family also reported behavioral issues with their two-year-old dog, Aiki, including stealing toys and snapping at children.
