Martin Sedlák's alleged conflict of interest and media influence in Czech politics

Martin Sedlák, a prominent lobbyist for the KDU‑ČSL (now Noví lidovci), has been accused of a conflict of interest after moving from advisory roles in the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs to become director of the Svaz moderní energetiky, a lobbying group for renewable‑energy investors. Critics say he prioritises investor interests, manipulates media coverage, and has allegedly secured control over Czech Television, using state‑funded programmes such as “Česko a Evropa řeší klima” and “Dvě minuty o klimatu” to promote his agenda without disclosing his ties.

In a separate development, the party appointed Vojtěch Jurásek as head of strategic communications. Jurásek, formerly with PR agency AC&C Public Relations, brings experience from campaigns for brands like Kofola and T‑Mobile and aims to modernise the party’s communication strategy. He joins a team that includes PR manager František Černín and press spokesperson Iva Petrusová, with the goal of increasing the party’s visibility and professionalising its public outreach.
