Martina Chiacchio wins double gold and two records at Mediterranean Games

Martina Chiacchio secured two gold medals and set two new records in the -61 kg weightlifting category at the 2026 Mediterranean Games held in Taranto, Italy.

In the snatch competition, Chiacchio achieved a record lift of 98 kg, finishing ahead of Turkey’s Aysel Ozkan (96 kg) and Spain’s Maria Olalla Munoz (90 kg). In the clean and jerk, she set another record by lifting 120 kg, followed by Munoz with 112 kg and Tunisia’s Eya Aouadi with 107 kg.

Italy concluded the first day of weightlifting competition with a total of five medals. In addition to Chiacchio’s two golds, Sergio Massidda earned one gold in the clean and jerk and one bronze in the snatch, while Ludovica Celine Delia secured a bronze in the snatch.
