Martina Focardi, prominent forensic pathologist, dies at 51
Dr. Martina Focardi, the Director of Legal Medicine at Careggi University Hospital and an associate professor at the University of Florence, has passed away at the age of 51 following a sudden and serious illness.
Focardi was a highly respected figure in the fields of both healthcare and law, serving as a prominent medical legal consultant for numerous judicial inquiries conducted by the Florence Prosecutor's Office. Her professional contributions included leadership in the Forensic Pathology Unit, where she specialized in determining the nature and causes of injuries in both living and deceased individuals, as well as assisting in victim identification.
In addition to her forensic work, she was recognized for her commitment to human dignity and protection, participating in initiatives such as the 'Codice Rosa' and promoting body donation to science. The Order of Physicians, Surgeons and Dentists of the Province of Florence, along with the academic and hospital communities, expressed deep condolences, praising her scientific rigor, professionalism, and dedication to her work until her final days.
