Martina Franca attacker arrested after striking cars and threatening pedestrians

A 29-year-old man caused panic in the center of Martina Franca, in the province of Taranto, after attacking vehicles and pedestrians with a metal bar. According to reports, the individual first threatened an elderly driver before striking a moving Smart car, shattering its windshield.

In response to the violence, four citizens intervened to disarm the man, resulting in a physical struggle. Four people sustained injuries and were treated at a local emergency room, while the attacker also sustained a facial injury during the confrontation. The Carabinieri arrived shortly after to apprehend the suspect, who was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.

Gianfranco Palmisano, the Mayor of Martina Franca, condemned the incident and has requested the adoption of an expulsion order for the individual. Local authorities are working to ensure community safety while the judiciary determines criminal responsibility.
