Martina Šimkovičová transitions from television career to Slovak politics
Martina Šimkovičová has undergone a significant career shift from television broadcasting to high-level politics in Slovakia. After beginning her media career at Markíza in 1998, where she moderated major news programs, her television tenure ended in 2015 following controversy regarding social media content related to migration.
Following her departure from television, Šimkovičová entered politics, first being elected to the National Council in 2016 with the Sme rodina movement. After a period of moderating on TV Slovan, she returned to parliament in 2023 as a candidate for the SNS. In October 2023, she reached a political peak when she was appointed Minister of Culture in Robert Fico’s fourth government, a role that has remained a subject of significant public attention and controversy.
