Martinez Zogo murder trial: Colonel Otoulou questioned in Yaoundé

During the trial regarding the assassination of Cameroonian journalist Martinez Zogo at the Yaoundé Military Tribunal, Colonel Jean-Pierre Otoulou, the lead investigator, underwent intense questioning.

Bruno Bidjang, an accused party facing charges of complicity in torture, challenged the investigation's methodology. Bidjang questioned why investigators did not conduct a direct confrontation between himself and cyber-activist Paul Daizy Biya, despite claims that their communications motivated his arrest. Colonel Otoulou responded that the investigation relied on gathered evidence and indices.

In related testimony, Lieutenant-Colonel Justin Danwe of the General Directorate of External Intelligence (DGRE) admitted to planning the surveillance, abduction, and torture of Martinez Zogo. Danwe claimed he acted under orders from his superiors, a statement that has faced contestation from defense lawyers.

The proceedings also noted a recent change in leadership at the tribunal, with Lieutenant-Colonel Dr. Atemengué Omgba Éric replacing Lieutenant-Colonel Cerlin Belinga as Government Commissioner.
