Martinho da Vila hosts literary meeting in Duas Barras

The Martinho da Vila Cultural Institute (ICMV) will host the first edition of the ‘Encontro Literário Saberes e Territórios Brasileiros e Lusófonos’ in Duas Barras, Rio de Janeiro, from October 29 to 31, 2026.

The event aims to connect literature, memory, and cultural identities within the Lusophone world. Featured participants include singer and writer Martinho da Vila, poet Luiz Antônio Simas, and Angolan journalist and writer José Eduardo Agualusa. According to ICMV President Cléo Ferreira, the gathering celebrates the diversity of the Portuguese-speaking world through music, literature, and history.

The program includes educational activities for municipal and state school students on October 29, featuring readings by writer Iris Barros. On October 31, Martinho da Vila and guests will participate in a public discussion. The event also includes a visit to the artist's birthplace, a property donated to the Institute. Since 2004, the ICMV has focused on social inclusion in the rural North Fluminense region through literacy and youth programs.
