Martinskirche Kaufbeuren faces 8 million euro renovation

Renovation plans for the historic Martinskirche in Kaufbeuren, a monument of national significance, have been presented to the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and the Arts. The 15th-century church requires extensive structural repairs due to significant damage identified during static investigations.

The necessary works include extending a steel-reinforced concrete ring in the choir area and renewing the entire roof structure. The total cost of the project is estimated at approximately 8 million euros. The renovation will be executed in four phases, with the first stage costing 2.6 million euros and scheduled for 2027 and 2028. The Diocese of Augsburg will cover 60 percent of the costs for this initial phase, leaving a remaining portion of approximately 1.055 million euros to be addressed.
