Martín Scelzo reflects on rugby retirement and new career

Former Pumas player Martín Scelzo reflected on his professional rugby career and his transition to the culinary world. After retiring from professional play, Scelzo opened his restaurant, El Gaucho, in Clermont-Ferrand, France, a city where he played for seven seasons.

Scelzo noted that his decision to retire at age 36 was driven by both physical limitations and a desire to move on from the sport. He expressed a longing for the adrenaline of the locker room and the pre-match atmosphere, while acknowledging that the increasing physicality of the game made it difficult to maintain his performance levels as he aged.
