Martín the rooster waits outside Bolivian hospital for eight years

A rooster named Martín has lived outside the Eastern Cancer Institute in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, for eight years following the death of his owner. The man originally arrived at the medical facility to receive cancer treatment but never returned.

Since his arrival, Martín has remained in the hospital's vicinity, becoming a familiar figure to staff and local business owners. To ensure his survival, hospital workers and nearby vendors have provided him with food and protection. The rooster is known to approach people offering food and has a particular fondness for popcorn.

Martín’s enduring presence has drawn international attention, drawing comparisons to the story of Hachiko, the Japanese dog famous for waiting for its deceased owner. Recent photographs have renewed interest in the bird's continued residence at the oncology hospital.
