Martín Varsavsky's Argentine Ranch Targets Tech Billionaires' Bunker

A group of six Silicon Valley investors, led by Argentine‑Spanish entrepreneur Martín Varsavsky, have bought a 32,000‑hectare ranch called Wamani in the Mendoza province of Argentina. The investors, which include tech entrepreneur Alec Oxenford, Kind bar founder Dan Lubetzky and LinkedIn co‑founder Reid Hoffman, have already spent nearly $10 million on the site.

The project aims to create a self‑sufficient enclave that could survive a global catastrophe. Prefabricated houses, geodesic domes, a solar‑powered runway and plans for livestock, water sources and solar‑run large language‑model computers are being installed. Varsavsky says the goal is to stay far from northern‑hemisphere nuclear targets while remaining close to food, water and energy, offering an “apocalypse insurance” for the ultra‑wealthy.

The initiative reflects a broader trend among tech billionaires to secure private shelters against risks such as nuclear war, pandemics, AI‑driven crises or climate collapse.
