Maruti Suzuki launches green hydrogen plant in Manesar

Maruti Suzuki India has launched its first 300 kW green hydrogen plant at its Manesar manufacturing facility. The project aims to reduce the company's reliance on fossil fuels, such as petrol and diesel, during the vehicle manufacturing process.

The plant utilizes a 300 kW electrolyzer to produce hydrogen from water using surplus solar electricity generated at the factory. This excess power, typically available during holidays or periods of low production, is captured to prevent waste. The produced hydrogen is stored and later blended with natural gas to be used as fuel within the factory.

Following the implementation at Manesar, the company plans to expand green hydrogen usage to its other manufacturing plants in Haryana and Gujarat. In addition to hydrogen, Maruti Suzuki is investing in other green energy initiatives, including a 10-ton daily biogas plant and a 1 MWh battery energy storage system at its Khorkhoda plant.
