Maruti Suzuki plans seven new SUVs and EVs through 2029
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest passenger‑vehicle maker, announced a product offensive targeting the rapidly growing SUV segment. Over the next three years the company will launch seven new utility vehicles, chiefly SUVs, including a Brezza facelift, a Y43 micro‑SUV to replace the Ignis, a three‑row Grand Vitara (Y17), an electric MPV (YMC), a Fronx electric model, a Jimny EV and a Fronx facelift. The plan is part of a broader nine‑model rollout, with multiple power‑train options – petrol, CNG, hybrid, flex‑fuel and electric – and aims to raise Maruti’s SUV share as the segment climbs from 23 % in 2019 to about 50 % in 2024.
To support the rollout, Maruti is shortening development cycles from 48 to 36 months, increasing localisation above 80 %, and using AI‑driven virtual testing. Production is targeted at roughly 2.82 million vehicles in FY 2027, bolstering its leadership in the Indian market.
