Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur Plant Reaches 1 Million Annual Capacity
Maruti Suzuki India Limited started commercial production at Plant D of its Hansalpur manufacturing complex in Gujarat. The new line adds 250,000 vehicles per year, raising the site’s annual capacity from 750,000 to 1 million units – the first Suzuki plant anywhere to hit that level and the largest passenger‑vehicle factory in India at a single location. With Plant D, Maruti Suzuki’s total Indian capacity is now about 2.9 million vehicles annually. The company has invested a cumulative ₹25,288.7 crore in the Hansalpur site, including roughly ₹3,900 crore for the new plant, and will initially produce the e‑VITARA battery‑electric SUV there. The facility already serves as a major export hub, accounting for roughly 47 % of the automaker’s overseas shipments in FY 2025‑26. Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said the expansion strengthens the company’s ability to meet growing domestic and export demand and supports its “Make in India, Make for the World” strategy.
