Marvel Announces X-Men ’97 Seasons 3‑4 and New Maximum X-Men Comic at SDCC 2026

At the San Diego Comic‑Con 2026, Marvel revealed two major X‑Men announcements. The animated series X‑Men ’97 was confirmed for a third season, with animation wrapped and a planned 2027 Disney+ release, and a fourth season already in the animatics stage. Test footage showed the Brotherhood of Mutants – Pyro, Avalanche, Blob, Toad and newcomer Surge – confronting a newly designed blue‑crowned Sentinel, signaling the group’s return in season 3.

Marvel also introduced a new comic title, Maximum X‑Men, slated for a December 2026 launch. Written by Christopher Yost and illustrated by Tony S. Daniel, the series features a Storm‑led team that includes Wolverine, Colossus, Bishop, Iceman, Firestar, Justice and others, created to fill the power vacuum after the Avengers: Armageddon event. Both announcements were presented by Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum and comics editor C. B. Cebulski, underscoring Marvel’s strategy to expand the mutant franchise across media.
