Marvel Studios to Skip MCU Films in 2027, Prioritizing Quality
Marvel Studios announced that no MCU movies will be released between the December 18 2026 debut of Avengers: Doomsday and the December 17 2027 release of Avengers: Secret Wars. Kevin Feige said the gap is part of a new “quality‑over‑quantity” strategy aimed at avoiding a crowded slate around the Avengers titles.
The decision was revealed at the Hall H panel of the 2026 San Diego Comic‑Con. In addition to the two Avengers films, Marvel confirmed that the 2028 slate will begin with Ghost Rider, starring Ryan Gosling, and Black Panther III, featuring David Jonsson. Disney previously announced in 2024 that it would limit Marvel releases to two or three theatrical films per year, making the twelve‑month gap the longest in the studio’s recent history.
