Marvel's Blade reboot declared dead as Kevin Feige calls it a failure

Marvel Studios announced a Blade reboot at the 2019 San Diego Comic‑Con, attaching two‑time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali to the titular vampire‑hunter role. The project has endured years of development trouble, including multiple script rewrites and the departure of two directors, Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange. Repeated release‑date shifts pushed the film from an intended 2023 debut to later dates before Disney finally removed it from the 2024‑2025 schedule.

In a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Marvel president Kevin Feige said, “I feel like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala.” He confirmed that Blade remains in development hell, noting that the studio has not found a script it believes can be elevated to a Marvel‑standard film. So far Blade’s only MCU presence is a brief, uncredited vocal cameo by Ali in the post‑credits scene of Eternals. While Feige reiterated affection for the character and hinted that Blade could still appear in future MCU ventures, the reboot is presently considered dead.
