Marvel’s Wolverine drives surge in PlayStation 5 sales

Marvel’s Wolverine, developed by Insomniac Games, became the best-selling game in the United States for September. According to data from Circana, the PlayStation 5 exclusive achieved the highest launch-month dollar sales for a Sony-published title since Helldivers 2 in early 2024.

The success of the title has significantly impacted Sony’s hardware performance. PlayStation 5 unit sales increased by 22% year-on-year, while revenue for the platform rose by 43% compared to the same period last year. This growth has pushed Sony’s hardware market share to its highest level since May 2025.

In contrast, competitors saw declines in the US market. Xbox Series unit sales fell by 27%, reaching record lows for the ecosystem, and Nintendo Switch 2 unit sales decreased by 14%. While Marvel’s Wolverine led the charts, NBA 2K27 has become the best-selling game of 2026 year-to-date in the United States, surpassing Resident Evil: Requiem.
