Marvin Compper defended by Dennis van Wijk amid Antwerp struggles

Former trainer Dennis van Wijk is defending Royal Antwerp coach Marvin Compper following a difficult run of results. After a strong start to the season with seven points from nine matches, the team suffered four consecutive defeats.

Van Wijk argues that the poor performance is not solely the fault of the German coach, but rather a result of the circumstances surrounding his appointment. Compper was hired only one week before the league started, leaving him insufficient time to implement a high-energy playing style. Additionally, Van Wijk noted that several players, including Arthur Vermeeren and Frey, have arrived late or are not yet at full physical fitness.

Despite the current struggles, Van Wijk expressed strong belief in Compper’s potential, stating, “I am convinced that Compper will become a top trainer,” noting that the coach simply requires more time to integrate his methods with a squad that lacks sufficient experience in top-tier football.
