Marvin Harrison Jr. attributes low catch totals to Chargers defensive schemes

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. addressed his limited production during the team’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers, where he recorded only one catch on three targets.

Harrison attributed the low volume to defensive game planning by Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh. Having played against Harbaugh during his time at Ohio State, Harrison noted that Harbaugh specifically designed coverages to shut him down, often utilizing heavy coverage and safety help. Harrison remarked, “I had a feeling going into the game that I wasn’t going to see many one-high looks.”

Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett and head coach Mike LaFleur both downplayed the statistical outlier. Brissett suggested that the lack of targets was a byproduct of Harrison commanding significant defensive attention, noting that the defense plays him heavily to prevent big plays. LaFleur advised against overreacting to Week 1 target numbers, stating the team will continue to adjust based on what makes sense against specific schemes.
