Marvital app developed to modernize maritime emergency response

Axel Castaño, a 19-year-old Data Science and Artificial Intelligence student from Mar del Plata, has developed Marvital, a maritime safety application designed to modernize emergency responses for fishing vessels.

The platform aims to replace outdated protocols dating back to 1982. Marvital integrates messaging, voice calls, video calls, and real-time geolocation to assist crews in high seas. Key features include Mayday alerts, man-overboard detection, and telemedicine capabilities, which allow medical professionals to monitor vital signs and communicate directly with crews.

Developed through Poseidón Tecnologías Marítimas in collaboration with Captain Cristian Guillén and the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata, the system is currently undergoing pilot testing in the port of Mar del Plata. Approximately 400 captains have already expressed interest in implementing the technology.
