Marvão hosts Al Mossassa Festival to celebrate historical roots

The 19th edition of the Al Mossassa Festival will take place in Marvão from October 2 to 5, celebrating the town's historical roots and the 800th anniversary of its first charter within the Kingdom of Portugal.

The event aims to recreate the era of the town's foundation, highlighting the influence of Islamic, Jewish, and Christian cultures. Programming includes historical reenactments, theater, music, dance, circus arts, and a 'Three Cultures Market' featuring local products and artisans.

Key attractions include the spectacle ‘Marvão – Onde a História Toca o Céu’, which traces the town's history from Roman and Islamic periods to the Portuguese kingdom, and a grand procession to conclude the festivities. Local authorities emphasize the festival's role in promoting regional tourism and supporting the local economy, particularly targeting visitors from the neighboring Spanish region of Extremadura.
