Marvão to host 19th Al Mossassa Festival celebrating 800 years

The medieval village of Marvão will host the 19th edition of the Al Mossassa Festival from October 2 to 5. This year's event holds particular significance as it commemorates the 800th anniversary of the town's first charter (foral).

The festival features a variety of historical activities, including the 'Three Cultures Market' showcasing Islamic, Jewish, and Christian traditions. Programming includes artisan workshops, military camps, archery, and medieval games. Key performances include the 'O Fogo' fire and acrobatics show by the Malatitsch group on October 2, and the 'Marvão – Where History Touches the Sky' production, which traces the town's history from Roman and Islamic eras to the reign of D. Sancho II.

The event concludes on October 5 with a large parade through the streets of Marvão. While some sessions are free, entry from Saturday to Monday costs two euros, with proceeds benefiting five local social solidarity institutions. Additionally, to mark World Tourism Day on September 27, the Marvão Castle and Municipal Museum will offer free admission.
