Marwan Barghouti: International campaign calls for release of Palestinian leader

An international campaign has been launched calling for the release of Palestinian political leader Marwan Barghouti, who has been imprisoned in Israel for over two decades. The movement has gained significant visibility through the support of more than 20 prominent actors from the Marvel cinematic universe, including Mark Ruffalo, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Cate Blanchett. The campaign expresses concern regarding Barghouti’s continued incarceration, the treatment he receives in prison, and the denial of his legal rights, calling upon the United Nations and world governments to intervene.

In a separate reflection on the Palestinian situation, journalist Mariam Barghouti has noted a shift in international perception. She observes that there is an increasing tendency for the global public, particularly younger generations, to view Palestinians as individuals with human rights and a right to resist occupation, rather than solely through a political or victimized lens. She highlights that while the repetition of the conflict can feel monotonous, there is a growing civil society interest in the human reality behind the headlines.
