Marwina Hospital receives medical supplies via Operatie Gran Mati

As part of ‘Operatie Gran Mati’ (Operation Big Friend), medical supplies and consumables were officially transferred to the Marwina Hospital on August 25. The handover took place at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labor to support healthcare services in eastern Suriname.

The medical goods were provided through the support of the U.S. Southern Command in collaboration with the U.S. state of South Dakota. Herman Jintie, chairman of the Marwina Hospital foundation board, accepted the goods and emphasized that international cooperation is vital for strengthening Suriname’s healthcare system, stating, “Suriname’s healthcare will not be able to do it without the support of external partners.”

Operatie Gran Mati is a civil-military initiative designed to strengthen ties between the National Army and local communities. Running from August 19 to August 29, the operation focuses on providing medical, dental, and eye care, as well as health education and small-scale infrastructure support in regions where access to basic services is limited.
