Marxheim: 950-ton bridge transported across the Danube
A massive 107-meter-long net arch bridge, weighing approximately 950 tons, was transported across the Danube near Marxheim on Thursday. Due to its unique construction, the bridge could not be moved by land.
The structure was previously assembled at a site adjacent to the river. On Wednesday, heavy-duty vehicles moved the construction onto heavy-duty pontoons. During the transport process, the northern end of the bridge was moved across the river toward a provisional pier, with approximately 450 tons of the load resting on the pontoons. To maintain stability during the operation, the water levels in the individual pontoons were regulated using pumps.
