Mary G. Montgomery appeals AHSAA playoff ban

Mary G. Montgomery High School has decided to appeal a one-year playoff ban and restrictive probation imposed by the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). The sanctions were issued in May following a ruling that the school’s football program committed recruiting violations, a decision that previously resulted in the loss of the head coach.

Principal David Diaz stated that the school is not seeking to minimize its responsibility but is asking the AHSAA Central Board to consider the specific circumstances and the corrective measures implemented to ensure future compliance. The AHSAA has scheduled a special meeting for August 31, where the board will hear the appeal in a closed executive session before conducting a public vote.
