Mary Poppins live-action TV series in development

A new live-action Mary Poppins television series is in early development, aiming to provide a faithful adaptation of P. L. Travers’ original eight novels. Unlike the well-known Disney musical films, this production intends to explore the darker, more mysterious, and sometimes unsettling tone found in the literary source material.

Producer Tom Winchester is developing the project through Pure Fiction Television, working directly with the trustees of the P. L. Travers estate. The production is supported by See-Saw Films and the UK talent agency Hamilton Hodell. While the project is currently in the pitch stage and lacks a confirmed platform, cast, or release date, preliminary discussions have reportedly taken place with Disney regarding potential involvement.

The series plans to utilize the broader scope of the book series, which features more unpredictable character traits and surreal, episodic adventures that extend beyond the traditional family setting seen in previous cinematic adaptations.
