Maryam Ibrahim Dan’Azumi wins international Qur’anic competition

Maryam Ibrahim Dan’Azumi of Gombe State has won the women’s category at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Competing against participants from 132 countries, she secured a prize of approximately SAR 300,000 (N120 million).

This edition of the competition marked a historic milestone as it featured female contestants for the first time in its 46-year history. The event, organized by the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, saw 334 contestants from 133 countries compete for a total prize pool exceeding SAR 10.26 million.

Nigerian officials, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigeria in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), have lauded the achievement. NIDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa noted that Maryam and another winner, Muhammad, represented Nigeria with distinction on an international platform. President Tinubu described the victory as a source of national pride and an inspiration to young Nigerians.
