Maryland Association of Counties holds Summer Conference
The Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) is holding its Summer Conference in Ocean City, bringing together approximately 3,000 officials from across the state for policy discussions and networking. This year’s theme, ‘Build What’s Next,’ focuses on critical issues including infrastructure investment, state-local collaboration, the integration of artificial intelligence in public services, and strategies for expanding housing and education funding.
St. Mary’s County officials are participating in the event, with Commissioner President Randy Guy serving on both the MACo Board and its Legislative Committee. The conference serves as a platform for local governments to advocate for their priorities to the Maryland General Assembly.
Parallel to the conference, discussions regarding Maryland’s housing crisis are ongoing. Recent deep-dive analyses have examined the complexities of housing finance, including the economic pressures of construction costs, interest rates, and the challenges of converting office spaces into residential units to meet the state’s growing needs.
