Maryland Attorney General joins coalition to limit ICE warrantless arrests

Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown has joined a coalition of 22 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief to a U.S. federal appeals court. The group is urging the court to uphold restrictions on warrantless arrests by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The legal challenge, Ramirez Ovando v. Mullin, follows a preliminary injunction in Colorado. The coalition argues that federal law requires immigration officers to determine if an individual is a flight risk before conducting a warrantless arrest. The attorneys general contend that enforcing these statutory requirements does not hinder lawful immigration enforcement but protects community trust and access to schools, businesses, and medical care.
