Maryland ballot initiatives face voter scrutiny and polling
The University of Maryland School of Public Health is releasing a nonpartisan biennial guide to assist voters in understanding various ballot initiatives. The guide covers topics such as immigration, reproductive health, LGBTQ+ rights, and healthcare funding. Developed by graduate students, the resource aims to provide neutral information regarding the potential effects of both “yes” and “no” votes to facilitate informed decision-making.
In Maryland, a poll conducted by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) indicates significant opposition to Question 3, a proposed constitutional amendment regarding redistricting. The survey of 776 likely voters found that 53% oppose the measure, while only 25% support it. If passed, Question 3 would clarify that certain constitutional requirements apply only to state legislative districts rather than congressional districts and would allow the Maryland General Assembly to grant the Supreme Court of Maryland original jurisdiction over challenges to congressional redistricting plans.
