Maryland baseball rebuilds roster ahead of 2027 season
The University of Maryland baseball program is undergoing a significant roster transition following a disappointing 2026 season. Head coach Matt Swope has integrated 19 transfers—including 13 pitchers and six position players—to bolster the team. Notable additions include junior Alex Marot from Charleston Southern and senior pitcher Jackson Logar, who previously played for James Madison and Mississippi State.
In addition to the transfer acquisitions, the program has welcomed seven true freshmen. This new roster aims to compensate for the departures of former Big Ten All-Freshman players Bud Coombs and Ty Kaunas. Coach Swope noted that the new group has brought a sense of energy and leadership to the program.
Looking ahead to the 2027 season, the Terrapins have released a 56-game schedule that includes high-profile road trips against SEC and Sun Belt opponents such as Ole Miss, Coastal Carolina, and East Carolina. The schedule also features an expanded Big Ten landscape with matchups against UCLA and Oregon. The team's offensive core is expected to be led by returning players David Mendez, Rylen Stockton, and Jackson Sirois.
