Maryland celebrates maritime heritage through boat shows and historic ships

Maryland continues to highlight its maritime heritage through a combination of historical preservation and modern water sports. The Chesapeake Bay region serves as a major destination for sailing, featuring both traditional fishing vessels and contemporary luxury yachts.

Annapolis is scheduled to host its annual boat shows in October 2026. The motorboat show will run from October 8 to 11, featuring approximately 350 vessels, including the world premiere of the luxury yacht Askari 65. This will be followed by a sailing boat show from October 15 to 18, showcasing over 150 sailboats, including the North American debuts of the Vaan R4 catamaran, the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 445, and the Knysna 550 catamaran. More than 500 exhibitors are expected to present maritime equipment, electronics, and accessories.

In Baltimore, the Historic Ships museum in the Inner Harbor preserves significant maritime artifacts. Notable attractions include the USS Constellation, the last fully sail-operated warship of the US Navy, the Coast Guard cutter USCGC Taney, and the Chesapeake lightship.
