Maryland college students focus on voter registration and engagement

Student organizations across Maryland are working to increase civic engagement and voter registration ahead of the October 13 deadline. At institutions such as Bowie State University, St. John’s College, and the University of Maryland, student leaders are utilizing voter registration drives and information pop-ups to help peers navigate deadlines and ballot measures.

At the University of Maryland, the nonpartisan organization TerpsVote is working to close information gaps regarding candidates and the voting process. Meanwhile, the university’s Student Government Association (SGA) recently held a special election following the disqualification of previous tickets. However, some students reported a lack of awareness regarding the SGA election, noting limited visibility of campaigning and a general lack of understanding regarding the organization's role in the campus community.
